| Welcome
the beginning of spring and the start of Washington Street
Gallery's eighth year with a visit to the showing
of slumped glass vessels by virtuoso glass artist Janet Kelman and
charcoal and pastel drawings
and monoprints by well known local artist Jean Lau. The show will run
from February 13th through March 25, 2007, with
a reception to meet the artists on Friday evening, February 16th, 7-9
pm. Janet Kelman, well known throughout the Midwest for her anemone-like undulating vessels in luscious colors, is now adding brightly colored enamel embellishments. Ms. Kelman, whose studio is in Royal Oak, Michigan will be giving a talk and having a book signing on February 25th as part of the gallery's Sunday at 2:00 series. Her talk How Does She Do That? will discuss her methods of working with glass. The newly released book, 500 Glass Objects, a celebration of functional and sculptural glass featuring one of Kelman's glass vessels on the cover and three other of her works inside, will be available for purchase and may be signed by the artist after the talk. New works by Jean Lau are miniature monoprints, pastel landscapes and drawings which combine charcoal with subtle pastel washes. Both women were among the founders of the Washington Street Gallery and Ms. Lau has remained active in the gallery throughout its seven years. |
