| With
an exciting move to Main Street in downtown Ann Arbor, WSG Washington
Street Gallery launches into its 10th year as one of southeast Michigan’s
foremost art venues. WSG Gallery will throw open its new
doors at 306
S. Main Street for a Grand Opening Celebration from
7-10 pm on Friday evening, March 7th. There will
be live music provided by the Community High School Jazz Band
and refreshments will be served.
The WSG Gallery artist-owners
worked with architect Seth Penchansky, AIA, from the
Ann Arbor design firm of Penchansky Whisler Architects
to develop a design concept that created dynamic exhibit space visible
from Main Street and from the large atrium of the 306 South Main Building,
historically known as the Pratt Block.
The gallery features contemporary fine art by regional artists: handmade
artist books by Barbara Brown; drawings and bronze
sculpture by Norma Penchansky-Glasser; textiles and prints
by Marilyn Prucka; oil and acrylic paintings by Martha
Rock Keller, Nora Venturelli and Adrienne Kaplan; jewelry, paintings
and encaustics by Dee Ann Segula; assemblage, artist
books and paintings by Alvey Jones; pastels and prints
by Jean Lau; encaustics and digital paintings
by Michelle A. Hegyi and Lynda Cole;
and works by new members Marlee Hoffman, Elizabeth Schwartz, Valerie
Mann, and Middy Potter, joining this creative ensemble as
they make the move.
Also showing at the first exhibition in its new space will be visiting
artists Maria Ruggiero (watercolor), Fran Wolok
(acrylic painting), Nina Hauser, (color photography)
and Jane Coates (hand blown glass and oil painting) .
This is the second move for WSG Gallery in nine years. Begun
in 1998 by 11 local artists in a small storefront on Washington Street,
the gallery made its first move in February 2003 to their larger
gallery space at 120 E. Liberty. Now, with this second move, this artist-owned
gallery is adding new artist members and guests to its roster.
