In her artist statement Thompson says, "Before moving to the Ann Arbor area I taught middle school in a poor, rural district in northern Michigan. The pieces in this show are images of students I came to know. Some led carefree innocent lives. Others seemed to be doomed from the start. I wonder if they remember me. I remember them."
Graduating in 1995 from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education, Jennifer taught in Roscommon, Michigan Middle School from 1996-2001 serving on both the Science and Mathematics Curriculum Committees. She received her Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art from Eastern Michigan University in August 2003, serving as a Graduate Assistant for the Art Education Department.
Since graduation she has been a part time instructor in the Mathematics Department at Washtenaw Community College and an adjunct Professor for the Art Education Department at Eastern Michigan University. Her paintings have been shown in exhibitions in Detroit, Midland, Ypsilanti and the Ann Arbor area. There will be a reception to meet the artist on Friday evening, March 17 from 7-9 pm.
