| In
this new exhibition of her Shape of the Sky series Michelle
A. Hegyi creates abstracted skyscapes of the soul. Delicately
combining bits and pieces from her acrylic paintings, adding pixels,
pigment and
at times encaustics, this well known Ann Arbor artist uses the infinite
states of the sky as a metaphor for human emotions. Layering, erasing
and adding in a variety of media, Hegyi brings her unique sense
of color, form and line to this much anticipated exhibition at the
Washington Street Gallery in downtown Ann Arbor from May 23 through June
25. . Of her new pieces Hegyi says, "By experimenting with combining and recombining both pigment and pixels, incorporating both pentimenti and erasures, and by sometimes grounding the work using an architectural structure or grid, I am attempting to introduce a spiritual sense of place." Perhaps because of her initial background in mathematics and computers, Hegyi uses her computer software as just another of her artists tools. She has succeeded in developing images unlike those being created by other contemporary artists. Moving easily between actual and virtual paint and brushes, her digital paintings have the look and feel of real paint. There will be a reception to meet the artist on Friday evening, June 2 from 7-9 pm. |
