Artist Book Signing

Saturday, November 20, 7 - 9 pm

As part of the Washington Street Gallery's new Visiting Artist Program, Sharon Donovan will be at the gallery on Saturday evening, November 20th, from 7-9 pm to introduce herself, her spectacular beaded jewelry and the book "500 Beaded Objects" published by Lark Books.  Ms. Donovan will sign purchased books and answer questions about her work.

The book, "500 Beaded Objects", is a compilation of the best work of current bead artists as selected by juror Carol Wilcox Wells.   Five pieces of Ms. Donovan’s jewelry are prominently featured and her artistry is mentioned by the author throughout the book.  Working in precious metals, silver and gold, Ms. Donovan fashions small frames, which she refers to as tiny looms, into which her beaded designs are woven.   Intricate patterns and colors, beads strung on silk and pearls on wire, carefully woven through tiny evenly pierced holes, form the pins, necklaces, bracelets and earrings in her collection.

After studying Fiber Techniques in Metal with Arlene Fisch at the University of California, Donovan developed her own technique.  Speaking of her craft, she says, "On August 15th, I celebrated my eleventh year anniversary of being a self-employed jeweler.  My work has evolved over the years; as I have increased my technical skills with practice and classes, my ability to innovate and create has expanded."

As a "Visiting Artist",  Ms. Donovan's jewelry and the book "500 Beaded Objects" will be for sale at the Washington Street Gallery from November 1 through April, 2005.
