WSG Gallery is delighted to welcome Ted Ramsay, Professor Emeritus of Painting at the University of Michigan School of Art & Design, as its newest member. Professor Ramsay’s oil and acrylic paintings as well as his polychromed mixed media paper works will be available in the gallery on a regular basis. Ted Ramsay received an MA and an MFA from the University of Iowa and an MFA degree from Cranbrook Academy. On his return form England in the fall of 1965 he joined the faculty of the University of Michigan. In l976, he began his study of papermaking in California at the Institute of Experimental Printmaking. Returning to Ann Arbor, he set up his Huron River Studio Papermill and began to produce handmade papers for use in his work. Subsequent tutorial experiences at Twinrocker, Inc., have broadened his interest in both classical and contemporary applications of handmade paper for casting and painting.

Teaching experiences in Europe at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie and Laurence Barker’s studio in Barcelona, Spain, combined with papermaking experiences in China, Thailand, Australia, and Tasmania have given Ramsay an understanding of the universal respect for the art of making fine paper as a part of the creative process.
Ted Ramsay’s work has been exhibited in invitational exhibitions and one person shows at the Elements Gallery in New York, Gruen Gallery in Chicago, Kidd Gallery in Birmingham, Toledo Museum of Art, Detroit Institute of Art, Mendocino Art Center, California, Gallery WooDuk, Seoul, Korea, and the American Cultural Center, Tel Aviv, Israel.
His work is represented in corporate and instructional collections, notably: Visual Arts Center, Beersheba, Israel; University of Iowa; The University of Michigan Museum of Art; Seoul National University of Technology, Seoul, Korea; Blue Cross-Blue Shield; Malbin Collection and K-Mart World Headquarters, Corporate Collection.
