Rio Baker, located in Chilean Patagonia, is the fastest flowing river in the country. In 2008 I taught a class on sustainable energy at the University of Michigan, and as part of the experience I took a group of 18 students to visit several locations along the river where there were plans to construct hydropower dams. The river roars, is powerful, magical, mystical, turquoise blue. I was moved, hypnotized in its presence and felt the spirit of the water that has been running into the sea since the beginning of time. While all of these emotions created this painting of colors and textures, I hoped with all my heart for the river to remain free. There are no dams on the Baker up to this day.
