Francesc Burgos | sway forth
porcelain
This one of a kind porcelain sculpture continues my exploration of external form and interior space. I often conceive of my sculptures as miniatures or models of larger, sometimes monumental, imaginary dwellings. This unique artwork was made by layering and pinching successive coils of clay, an ancient and time consuming ceramic technique. — Francesc Burgos

Lynda Cole | Skating on the Surface or Diving in the Deep
oil paint, cold wax on cradled, framed Gessobord
I came up with this when considering how best to think about something. I could look at the ‘something’ via how it appeared initially - on the surface. Or I could look more deeply.
The spaces in the painting give me room and silence to consider. — Lynda Cole

Barbara Brown | 27
Boxed set of three wooden blocks that have been surface- designed with painted and stitched canvas, and acrylic inlays and onlays. The blocks are housed in a clamshell box covered with Cialux Italian book cloth.
As I was finishing up this piece, I got a call telling me of the February 7 (2/7), 2021 passing of a beloved artist friend.
I decided that the piece would be titled “27”, and it is dedicated to Scott Wettlaufer, who was a talented calligrapher and book artist. He will be greatly missed.

Ted Ramsay | Brahms
acrylic on canvas
Music has always been with me as I worked in my studio. The emotional power and excitement was both relaxing and challenging to my mind and body. I thought to myself, why not try to capture in my paintings, that personal emotional energy that the music provided. So the Visual Symphony Series began and the power of the sound and its emotional energy became the subject of my work. — Ted Ramsay

Valerie Mann | Midwest Landscape Series, West on 18
watercolor on Lanaquarelle watercolor paper
This piece captures a late sunset in western Indiana, but could be a lot of places in the Midwest. When I am shooting reference photos of our Midwest landscape, I know I am seeing something fleeting that changes from minute to minute. Watching the light change and the colors change is a sacred experience for me. Hearing the day quiet down and feeling the evening envelop me feels like walking into an ancient cathedral when I instinctively quiet my voice and look up in awe. — Valerie Mann
